Oma's Kitchen

Surinamese recipes and stories from four generations

For years I've been cooking together with my oma (that's Dutch for grandma). Her recipes were never really written down: they lived in her head, in her hands and in an old cookbook full of little notes.

Now they're all coming together in one book, with every story behind them. Explained so that anyone can make them, even if you've never stood next to oma in her kitchen.

Four generations

From oma to me

Oma picked up a lot in Moeke's kitchen, and taught herself even more. She passed it on to my mum and to me. Now I'm writing her recipes down, so they're kept forever.

A cookbook to cook from, and something to pass on.

1

Moeke

The kitchen where oma often stood, watched and learned so much.

2

Oma

Fell in love with cooking early and started to experiment.

3

Mum

Learned to cook from oma, just like I did later on.

4

Billie

Learned from oma and writes it all down, so it's kept forever.

I make videos about cooking, and a lot of what I know, I learned from my oma. Come say hi.
